It grates against my ear to hear meteorologists speak of 80 degree plus temperatures as "wonderful", and "comfortable". I know that for them and probably for the majority of their audience it is, actually <shudder!> "wonderfully comfortable", but for me it just means more days of AC, more days of staying inside away from the heat, more days of feeling dirty because I'm perspiring, etc.
I can't reasonably expect them to change, but I can dream, can't I?

We are dealing with exactly the same problem here.....tomorrow we hit 85! Highs like this normally don't happen this late in September

Dreaming is right. Had some lady remark to me yesterday about " what a beautiful weekend it's going to be" this weekend ( highs in the mid 80s) and I had so had enough that I just looked at her and said "not for me!" LOL

I usually respond as well, taking care nor to be too strident, or show too much annoyance with the assumption I'm just like the rest of the heat-o-philiacs.
No, I just smile a sincere smile and say that isn't how I view it, and that I'm looking forward to the winter cold. If they want to engage in conversation I do, hoping to enlighten someone with a different experience of the weather. If they look at me odd I just wish them a good day and move on.
I don't want to get into an pointless argument. I mean, I already know I'm right! (grin)

So...GregR, and anyone else who wishes to answer...
What are your ideal temperatures?
If you were to describe your perfect climate, what would it be like?

So...GregR, and anyone else who wishes to answer... What are your ideal temperatures? If you were to describe your perfect climate, what would it be like? I'd still want four seasons, but my ideal temps would go something like this: Winter I'd like it around 10-20 degrees F. Spring can get up to 50 degrees, Summer no hotter than 70, and Fall around 60. If I have to pick an ideal outside temp for "short sleeve" weather it would be between 50 and 60 degrees. Indoors I'd keep it at 60 to 65. I want the air fairly low in humidity too.

In that case...our Bloody Summer this year seems to be never ending... . All this week and next week we're looking at 70+ degree temps. This is OCTOBER... we should be having FALL! The entire West Coast is burning up, apparently.

In my opinion this is a result of the slow changes in climate, which as far as Summer SAD sufferers are concerned is changing in the wrong direction. I really understand your frustration.
This last week in upstate NY was too warm as well, but last night a cold front passed through and now we are at 54 degrees. Blessed cool!

This is a good question! I would like the 4 seasons ,too.Winter temp should be between 0 and 25 degrees, spring no higher than 50, summer no higher than 65, fall same as spring no higher than 50. Low humidity, except for winter for lots of snow!! It has been nice and cool here and only low 60's this week, except for Tuesday a high of 66 , which is okay.No 70's or 80's in sight ,good riddance I say. My sister lives in Seattle and has NOT been happy with the warm weather out there. She bought a new trench coat with a zip out lining for the rain and cold which has not been coming there this fall ! I would be depressed TOO!! This is climate change we could do without!

Plus, I'd want tons of snow and a beautiful Fall season! A few sun breaks here and there are okay, but really, when you compare the number of sunlight hours had here in the US compared to say....NW Europe? We get WAY more sun than they do, much to my chagrin. Today we set a record high for this time in October 75 degrees Tomorrow is my son's picture day (he's a second grader) and I had bought him a nice outfit to wear for it....but guess what? He CAN'T because it's going to be too bloody hot for it! 75 degrees again tomorrow....looks to be another record, and not the kind I'd like to see set, either.

It seemed like it used to be come October the weather was in the 50's and 60's now a lot more 70's and sometimes 80's are common! Some of the weather people are predicting the 70's to return here the middle to end of next week,NOOOO! Next Wednesday is the 15th of October it should be cooler! I agree with you Rhiannon ,sunny and 70's in October is very depressing when it is ABOVE the normal temperature!! Especially when you can't even wear the clothes for the season because it's too warm !

Ginger....we have more 70+ degree days coming this weekend. I can't believe it. By now we shouldn't be seeing the 70s at all. This is not just happening here though....we just came back from New England late last night....you know how New England is supposed to be this time of year....crisp days, cold nights, beautiful fall colors. We had several days over 70 degrees, and the day we left the humidity and high temps had returned making it feel like SUMMER. Just awful. I have a bad feeling this winter is going to be record warm For everyone.

Rhiannon, the weather people here were giving their prediction for the winter ahead and were saying it would be a "normal" winter with average temps and average snowfall. But who knows it's only October! Our weather has finally cooled down to high 50's or low 60's. No hard frost yet, but we did have a light frost last weekend. I am hoping the warm weather here is done! The fall colors are beautiful here now. My sister who lives in Seattle is going up to Whistler,British Columbia this weekend to enjoy the fall colors and hopefully cooler weather. She said Seattle doesn't have the fall colors or cool weather yet that SHOULD be there by now! This has been a very long summer for the pacific northwest! Well we are past the middle of October so it has to come soon!!

Last winter it was colder in Chicago than Alaska, because of the polar vortex. We are going to have that again next week with highs in the 30's , can't wait! Rhiannon you should watch that show on HGTV Living Alaska where they show people looking for houses in Alaska. Very expensive to live up there, just different things I learned from that show on HGTV. Some places you have to buy your water supply because the houses didn't have their own wells. Home heating can be expensive with propane or heating oil. Food is more expensive because a lot of it is shipped from the lower 48. I always said I wanted to move there till I researched the prices and looked at the housing up there. Also our families all live in the Chicago area and I would miss them. We'd have to come here to visit because no one likes the cold except me!! Now if we moved to Florida[ NEVER HAPPEN] everyone would want to come. UGH! I could NEVER live in the south! International Falls ,Minnesota is a cool place to live right on the border with Canada and they have very cold long winters. Average summer temps in the high 70's. Cheaper than Alaska.
