Our humidity is up these days. Not sure what the readings are but it's like a sauna. I was thinking to myself this morning..."I will just white knuckle my way thru July and then things will be more bearable" It was meant as a bit of a pep talk but as I write it I realize how depressing it is

VERY humid here today 76 dewpoint!!! I had an eye exam appt. today and the one woman came back from her lunch and said " I hope all the people that wanted this hot weather are happy, because I'm NOT! I would rather have 40 below zero than this weather!" I told her I agreed with her and she said there aren't many of us out there!! It was nice to here someone say they hate this weather as most people won't!! I too can't wait for October!!!!

We finally got a break from the heat and humidity today. Lots of late afternoon and early evening t-storms the last two weeks, but all that rain just evaporates the next day, raising the humidity and causing more rain showers late in the day-starting the cycle all over again.
And I'm also depressed because school is out. And because my laptop is in the shop, so I have to type on my iPad, which is annoying. But it's 12 degrees cooler than yesterday and much less humid so it is better.
There, my rant is over. When I get my laptop back I'll try to post some humor to help us all get brought this summer.

Hello everyone! It is relief to locate this website. When I saw the snow, light wind, and tree picture- I just knew it was the right place to be. Thank you all!! It is 07/14/2013 in the Chicago area and very humid, near 90 degrees. Counting the days until September and also visiting stores that have fall decor out. What really helps Summer SAD for me is to furnish my home with fall decorations, candles, pictures, etc. in June, July, and August. Even pictures of snowy scenes help. It's a refuge from summer and its heat. Also working in retail helps in the summer as they rush the seasons ahead. The halloween set is scheduled for 07/15/2013! Yeah!! Every bit helps. Can't wait until the real deal of cool to cold north winds and snow! Thanks again for reading. Erik

Welcome Erik!
We are always happy to hear of effective coping mechanisms to deal with the heat. I've found that they don't always work with everybody, but the more we learn of, the easier life can be during the summer. Here in central New York the summertime returned with a vengeance today, and will stay for the next 4 or 5 days. Temps around 90 and dewpoints above 75.
I'd scream if it didn't make me hotter.
Anyways, welcome to the group.

Ginger,
According to Weatherspark.com, my favorite weather data site, the hottestdayof the year, on average, in Chicago is July 12. After that date the daily high temps start to slowly decrease. I know it's small consolation for your heat and high dew points, but hang in there, it is getting better...on average that is.

Weatherman said tonight on news that today July 20th is the last day of peak sun rays here, now the sun will be less intense as the days are getting shorter!!! Finally some good news ,instead of " how beautiful this weather is" . I noticed how the sunsets are losing a minute a day in the evening till August 1st then it starts losing 2 or 3 minutes in the evening, fall is coming!!

Very HUMID outside of Chicago today but no rain! We had a very hot and humid week the 3rd week of July and that seemed to dry up the lawns some, and now we have had no rain, really. It has still been warm here, but the good news is by the end of this week the sun will set before 8pm!! And the end of August it will set about 7:26pm!! YES!! The days are getting shorter faster and faster!!! Bring on Fall!!!

08/07/2013 was terribly humid and very uncomfortable in the suburbs of Chicago and Northwest Indiana with dew points at 75 and the highs between 90 to 95 degrees. It's VERY difficult to stay on task and carry on with ADL's. Through fervent prayer, helping others at the food bank today on this dreadful "furnance" of a day, did to a point, help my depression a bit to get through today. Working out at the gym was not an option due to the oppressive humidity, although on most days I try to do the best possible to get a "soaking, sweaty workout at least five days a week". It's not easy during the summer to exercise in a gym. The heat, humidity, and the andropause all contribute to the Reverse Seasonal Affective Disorder. But, with all humility, exercise really helps to abate the symptoms along with a reasonable diet and choices in food. In itself, just by switching to bottled water only from any kind of sodas, having a sleep/wake schedule everyday, and eating tons of lean and green foods with a multivitamin everyday has really helped mood, energy, and motivation. Although there are still very bad days. Please know that I most sincerely look forward to logging in to this site for new information to help understand my Summer Depression and whole-wheartedly thank everyone who updates daily. Without a doubt, this website has helped me and so many others get through these difficult summers. Thank you for keep this site running! It surely is a blessing in disguise. Thank you again for taking the time to read this blog. Today was in particular a very depressing day. With the hopes of tomorrow, surely it will be a better day. Fall can't get here faster....Please know I really do appreciate everyone's input in regards to SummerSAD and not to feel so very lonely and depressed. Again, please respond to this blog and kindly offer your tips how everyone gets through these difficult summers. Thank you. Respectfully, Erik

The last two weeks have been wonderful here, lows in the 50's and low humidity. But the respite is about over. Looks like back to the 90's next week. It was good while it lasted. REALLY hoping that the heat doesn't last too long.

Really humid and hot here today outside of Chicago. They are predicting this to last till Labor day weekend with some"cooler" days in the 80's ,big deal!! I hope this is getting to be summers last gasp, and fall weather starts earlier. At least the days are getting shorter.

I agree completely with Ginger. It is now 08/25/13 in the Chicagoland area and it is absolutely disgusting outside with high temperatures in the mid '90's and very high humidity at the end of August leading up through Labor Day. The sun and heat cuts like a knife and make me so depressed. I hope this is summer's last grasp before fall begins as these temps are way above normal. The thing is that we should have had these temperatures in mid June and early July, not near September. I was really looking forward to cooler 70 degree weather at least. It's humid, hot, sunny, and it has not rained sufficient enough in weeks! The lawns are burnt by the scorching sun, and the A/C runs non-stop. I am trying to ignore this weather by working, staying on a routine, sleep/wake cycle, and exercise, but it has become very difficult to not be depressed. With all humility and honesty, I really can't wait until it snows. Only in dreams and movies does that happen right now. Mood: Very sad
