Does anyone else live in Southern California? I find the endless blue skies, sunshine and warm weather horribly depressing. I have read that there are other people who live here who feel the same way, but I have not yet met anyone and I would love to commiserate. Please don't suggest that I move...I will when my children have flown the coop, but I am happily married and our business is here. I had no idea when I moved to SoCal that I would find the weather so oppressive.

Hi sadinsocal.
I feel for you. SoCal is where I grew up, and boy did I HATE it! I moved the heck out of there just as soon as I was able to back in 1989. Lived in the Pacific NW until this last summer when we finally made our move to Alaska, where I am much happier!
Where did you move to socal from? What made you move there? Which part do you live in? I lived in the hottest part of the SFV, and believe me, it was horrible. I remember being SO HAPPY when we'd have a cloudy day! Plus, back then, it was much smoggier in the LA area than it is now.
I don't know what to tell you as far as finding coping mechanisms to deal with the heat, but really good AC helps and perhaps when you're outside, you might want to wear a visor and the darkest glasses you can to protect you from the sun's rays. I hate the sun myself and use this as a means to deal with it....it really does help!

Downeast Maine, right on the coast, is heavenly to me. Living on the warer in a boreal forest brings me shade, lower temps, foggy mornings, and cool breezes. When your kids are out on their own, think about the northern coast of Maine. I paid $50,000 for two acres on an ocean bay two years ago. No jobs up here, but it is an affordable place to retire in cool comfort.

^^Northern Maine would be my next choice. Everything I've ever heard about it tells me I'd love it there as well.
